Helen in the Independent: British surrogacy law needs to be brought up to date
Helen has been interviewed for a feature in The Independent about intended parents going abroad for surrogacy. Highlighting disreputable ‘cowboys’ and embryo mix-ups at foreign clinics, the article tackled the dark side of overseas surrogacy. At Brilliant Beginnings, we know how daunting these issues can be for intended parents, which is why we help those going overseas to do it safely.
Helen told the Independent that, in the longer term, a better framework for UK surrogacy is the answer.
”British surrogacy law needs to be brought up to date with not just the growing demand for surrogacy but also to enable professional regulation,” Helen told the Independent. “With a proper structure and legal framework, like the kind of regulation we have in place for egg donation, more UK surrogates would be encouraged to come forward and fewer parents would need to go abroad”.
