NHS North West Midwives surrogacy guideline launch

We are incredibly proud to have played a role in shaping the new NHS guidance for midwives in the North West on surrogacy (North West Guideline: Surrogacy)

This guideline is a landmark resource designed to improve the care and experience of surrogates, intended parents and babies across the region.

Alongside NHS maternity leaders, clinicians and service users, Helen and Nicky from our team contributed extensive surrogacy expertise and knowledge. We’re also especially proud that Brilliant surrogates Tildy and Charlotte, both of whom are midwives themselves, played an important part in the development of the guideline, bringing both their professional insight and their first hand experiences of being surrogates.

This comprehensive guideline brings clarity, consistency, and compassion to every stage of the surrogacy journey, from early pregnancy through birth and into postnatal care.

Our involvement ensured that the lived experiences of surrogates and intended parents were central to its creation, helping maternity teams understand what best practice, person centred surrogacy care looks like.

At the launch of guidance earlier today Nicky spoke about the legal situation around surrogacy and how this might impact UK surrogacy journeys.

This guideline is a significant step forward for surrogacy care in the UK, and we’re honoured to have supported its development. Most importantly, it will help more families experience safe, positive and well supported journeys into parenthood.
